The American Music Awards (AMAs) are celebrating their golden jubilee this year, honoring the best albums and outstanding performances by artists from all over the world.
There were many Nigerian pop stars who competed for the award this year, but Wizkid ended up taking home the prize as ‘Favourite Afrobeat Artist’ beating Burna Boy, Tems, Fireboy DML and CKay.
The win of Wizkid at the 2022 American Music Awards follows the release of his fifth album, More Love, Less Ego, which consists of 13 track, and was released on 11 November.
Besides that, Wizkid was also honoured with a ‘Best R&B’ award alongside Tems for their hit collaboration ‘Essence‘, which won the same award at the 2022 BET Awards for its remix.
She also won the Favourite Hip Hop Song award for her contribution to Future’s ‘WAIT FOR YOU’. This news comes after Tems surpassed a billion streams across all of her Spotify credits. With the billion milestone, Tems joins Burna Boy, Wizkid, CKay, and Davido.
With six nominations worldwide, US artist Taylor Swift won every category she was nominated for, including Artist of the Year, making her the most decorated artist in AMA history with 40 career wins.
