Ugandan fashion designer Anita Beryl has married financial consultant Richard Ekoot in a wedding celebration in Como, Italy, following traditional marriage-related ceremonies in Uganda earlier this year.
Photographs and video shared on social media show Beryl, the creative director of BerylQouture, posing with Ekoot against a mountainous backdrop. She wore a pink bridal gown and a long veil, while Ekoot wore a dark blue suit, white shirt and tie.
Beryl captioned a video of the ceremony on Instagram: “Glory to God in the highest ..”
The couple’s Italian celebration follows a family introduction ceremony in January, when Ekoot was formally introduced to Beryl’s parents, Rev. Emmanuel Ahabwe and Jean Ahabwe, at their home in Masheeruka, Sheema District.
The ceremony, known as kugamba obugyenyi, is a traditional Ankole introduction in which a prospective groom and his family formally approach the bride’s family. Reports published in January said the two families completed the customary proceedings, including bride-price negotiations.
Wedding team
BerylQouture provided the couple’s wedding outfits, according to details published by SatisFashion UG. Italian company La Dolce Wedding handled planning, while Ugandan hairstylist Hairbyzziwa worked on Beryl’s hair. Cary Hairstyle and Makeup provided makeup services, and Inspired Hope Events handled the decor.
Ekoot, the son of the late John Temel of Kumi District, also drew attention during the January introduction ceremony when he presented Beryl with a pink Range Rover. The gift was reported by Ugandan media covering the family event.
The couple’s exact wedding date and the full details of the ceremony have not been established in the available reports.
