Sheila Saltofte, better known as Sheila Salta, has danced through Uganda’s entertainment scene with the charm of a natural performer and the resilience of someone who’s learned to embrace reinvention.
Her face is familiar to many. From hosting high-energy television shows to commanding live events and now ruling the radio airwaves, Salta has become one of Uganda’s most recognisable media personalities. But behind the glamour and selfies lies a woman who’s quietly navigated the highs and lows of fame, family, and finding her place in the fast-changing world of entertainment.
From Denmark to the Spotlight in Kampala
Born in 1992 at Hvidovre Hospital in Denmark, Sheila moved to Uganda in 2002 when she was just 10 years old. It didn’t take long for her to fall in love with television. By the age of 13, while still a student, she had already landed her debut on Uganda’s once-popular WBS TV, making appearances on Teens Club, a show that would become her launching pad.
“I never really planned it,” she once said in an interview. “I was just drawn to the camera, to the lights, to the energy of it all.”
That early interest blossomed into a full-fledged media career. Over the years, she featured on Urban TV, where she hosted Backstage Pass and 527, and later on Magic 1HD. Her signature blend of confidence and charisma made her a fixture at some of the country’s biggest youth and music events – from the Buzz Teenz Awards to Club Mega Fest.
A New Chapter at NBS, Then NRG
In 2020, Salta joined NBS KatchUp, replacing fellow media personality Anita Fabiola. The announcement came with her signature flair, delivered to her Instagram followers with bubbling excitement.
“Ladies and gents,” she wrote, “Sheila Salta has joined @nbstelevision. I’m super excited and humbled for this opportunity.”
For a time, she thrived at NBS TV, blending seamlessly with the show’s vibrant cast. But in January 2023, after a quiet exit from the station, she surprised fans once again – this time returning to radio as the new Drive Show host on NRG Radio Uganda, a fast-growing urban station with roots in Kenya.
“On to the next one,” she posted on X (formerly Twitter), confirming her new gig. “I’m excited to be signed with @nrgradioug… I kick off with my own show on Monday.”
Life Beyond the Mic
Off-screen, Salta’s life has played out in the public eye just as much as her career. In 2020, she got engaged to longtime partner Maxim Steurbaut – better known as Maxxi – in a heartwarming surprise proposal. Maxxi, a Belgian-born talent manager who has worked with Ugandan star Jose Chameleone, had been Salta’s partner for eight years.
But by July 2021, the relationship had run its course. The pair parted ways amicably – not with bitterness, but with maturity rarely seen in celebrity breakups.
“We ended the relationship mutually,” Salta revealed during a Twitter Spaces conversation with Galaxy FM. “We’re still friends, we work close to each other, and we both support each other.”
She’s also a devoted mother – fiercely protective of her son, and clear about her priorities. When pregnancy rumours once circulated, she was quick to dispel them: “I am very happy with just one child,” she said, “and more focused on my career and loving him.”
Then came Valentine’s Day 2023. Salta introduced her new partner – an Australian environmentalist named Johannes – to her fans via Instagram, sharing affectionate photos and a new chapter in her life. The move surprised many, but for those who’ve followed her journey, it felt in character: bold, open-hearted, and refreshingly honest.
