MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), held on 12 September 2021 in Brooklyn, New York, saw Beyonce’s ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ featuring Wizkid, earn the Best Cinematography Award for the year.

Wizkid won the award at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), where Shatta Wale was vying for the ‘Best Art Direction’ nomination; the award also came as Wizkid will be touring internationally in support of his 2020 album ‘MADE IN LAGOS’.
Throughout September and October, Wizkid will be touring the US on his ‘MADE IN LAGOS’ tour; after that, he will travel to the UK and Canada to perform.
The song, which also features Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter and R&B singer SAINt JHN, beat out competition from Billie Eilish, Foo Fighters, Chance The Rapper, Lady Gaga, and Lorde.
In addition to this award, ‘Brown Skin Girl’, which comes off Beyoncé’s 2020 musical film and visual album Black Is King, has earned a number of other accolades.
In March, Nigerian singer Wizkid earned a second consecutive NAACP Image Award with “Brown Skin Girl”, winner of the Grammy Award for Best Music Video.
The song was also a winner of the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the 2019 Soul Train Music Awards and the Music Video of the Year Award the following year at the same awards ceremony.
Also nominated at the 2021 MTV VMAs, ‘Brown Skin Girl’ lost out to ‘Leave the Door Open’ by Bruno Mars, Anderson. Paak, and Silk Sonic.
Lil Nas X took home Video of the Year, the night’s biggest prize, for his song ‘Montero’ (Call Me By Your Name). Justin Bieber won Artist of the Year.
