If you’ve tuned into Ugandan radio or TV over the last decade, chances are you’ve come across the energetic voice and face of Brian Mulondo. Whether he’s hosting The D’Mighty Breakfast on KFM or producing shows like Timeline256 and Bump Love Uganda on NTV, Brian has become a household name — not just for his charisma but for the intentional way he’s built his media career.

In this post, we dig into who Brian Mulondo really is, how he got his start, what drives him, and what lessons he’s picked up along the way.

From Humble Beginnings to the Spotlight

Born in 1984 in Kampala, Brian grew up with a strong sense of discipline. His mother, Mary Babirye, worked as a hospital assistant at Mulago, and his father, Emmanuel Ssemugooma, was a former policeman.

He went through Makerere University Primary School and later Mengo Senior School, eventually graduating from Makerere University with a degree in Social Sciences.

His real education, though, came from the world of media — a journey that started in church.

Brian Mulondo and Manuela: A Love Story That Began on a Bus

One of the most charming parts of Brian Mulondo’s story isn’t something you’d find on screen or behind a mic — it’s his love story with Manuela Pacutho Mulondo, his wife, partner, and fellow dreamer.

The two met during a university ministry trip headed to Nairobi, Kenya. It wasn’t your typical “we locked eyes across the room” kind of story — it was way more casual and beautifully awkward.

Brian was literally sitting on a stool in the bus corridor when he first noticed Manuela.

“Our meeting is such a long story. Do we have time?” he jokes.

They were both part of a Christian group called Celebration Zoe, traveling to minister in universities. According to Manuela, the trip was incredibly affordable — “Talk about wanting to go abroad for free of charge,” she laughs.

But it wasn’t just a free trip. It was divine alignment. Manuela once said she felt God revealed to her that Brian was the man she would marry. Sounds wild, but hey, sometimes life writes the best love stories.

Fast forward a few years, Brian and Manuela tied the knot in 2012 at Watoto Church, the very place where Brian got his media break. It was full circle in the best way possible.

Today, the couple has two children, including their daughter Bianca Zerlinda Mulondo and a son—Blake Mulondo. And even though they recently faced some public heat for their kids struggling with Luganda, their family bond remains strong and deeply rooted in faith and shared values.

Together, they also run projects like The Cradle — Manuela’s 24-hour child care service for children aged newborn to four years — and the candid family YouTube series Riding with the Mulondos, where they talk openly about marriage, parenting, and the behind-the-scenes life of a media couple.

The Big Break: From Church News to NTV

While working at Watoto Church, Brian got a shot to read the news on KPCNN. The performance was so impressive that the producer said, “You’ve got something.”

Soon after, NTV Uganda came calling. Brian landed a slot on Better Living in 2003, and the camera clearly loved him. In 2011, he returned to NTV to host Tricksters, a show that exposed scammers and con artists. It was bold, eye-opening TV — and it made him a public figure almost overnight.

“Some people have made it in life entirely because of being bold,” he says, reflecting on how he used opportunities to make himself seen.

The Rise of a Media Powerhouse

From there, it was a whirlwind. Brian hosted Mini Buzz, one of Uganda’s top chat shows at the time. He auditioned for radio with Becky for Cruz Control, which opened the door to KFM’s DMighty Breakfast.

He didn’t stop at radio and TV. Brian has built a successful production company — Garage Group Ltd — and became a content strategist working behind the scenes for top-tier clients. His appointment in 2022 as Head of Local Content Marketing at Multichoice Uganda solidified his reputation as one of the leading voices in Ugandan media.

“Folks, I am pleased to inform you that I have been appointed as the Local Content Marketing Manager at Multichoice Uganda… I am humbled by the trust and responsibility.”

What Drives Brian Mulondo?

Brian isn’t shy about his beliefs on work, passion, and purpose. One thing he’s clear on is this:

“Passion doesn’t make anybody money. If you don’t know how to do business, you’re wasting time.”

It’s a perspective he’s earned through years of creating TV content, managing events, and consulting for brands. While people often glamorize the media industry, he’s quick to remind others that it’s a real job — and a costly one.

“People think we just sit in a car and record. But the show Riding with the Mulondos took savings. That car is soundproof for a reason.”

Changing the Narrative Around Creatives

Brian gets frustrated when people look down on creative work or consider it a “Plan B” for those who didn’t succeed elsewhere.

“The creative industry hires the most intelligent people in the world,” he says. “Parents shouldn’t tell their kids to join it just because they didn’t pass sciences.”

He emphasizes the need for collaboration, professional standards, and business acumen in the creative world. His company doesn’t just produce shows — they work with TV stations, share ad revenue, and build sustainable brands.

Public Moments and Private Backlash

Like many public figures, Brian hasn’t dodged controversy. In 2022, he made headlines for criticizing musicians’ hygiene during interviews. He called out artists for showing up with “bad breath” or “smelling like weed,” even naming King Saha.

That triggered a wave of online debate. King Saha clapped back, saying Brian’s words were “propaganda.”

In March 2025, Brian and his wife faced another round of criticism when a YouTube video revealed that their kids struggled with the Luganda language. A simple moment — asking the kids to get plates from the kitchen — turned into an internet frenzy when they returned with saucepans instead.

More Than Just a Media Personality

Brian’s also a top-tier event host. From MTN Goal of Goals to Stanbic Bank’s gala dinners, he’s been the face (and voice) of corporate Uganda for years. But through it all, he stays grounded — balancing family life with the fast-paced world of media.

“We need to build teams that share the same values,” he says. “That’s the only way to create something that lasts.”

So who is Brian Mulondo?

Brian Mulondo is more than a familiar voice on the radio or a face on your TV screen. He’s a storyteller, a strategist, a father, and a dreamer who made his own luck by putting in the work. His journey from church corridors to the corridors of influence is one that inspires many young Ugandans chasing their own creative dreams.

So next time you see his name pop up on your screen or hear him on air, know that there’s a whole story — full of grit, grace, and hustle — behind the man with the mic.
