DStv is set to premiere Hit Point, a six-part British crime thriller written by BAFTA-winning screenwriter Howard Overman, on M-Net on Monday, October 26.
The series, scheduled to air on DStv Channel 102 at 21:00 East Africa Time, follows two London detectives whose investigation into a cash robbery takes an unexpected turn when one of them is revealed to have been involved in the crime.
Nick Blood plays Leo, a detective who steals millions of pounds in drug money to help pay for the care of his younger brother, who was paralysed in an accident. He is then forced to investigate the robbery alongside Bella, played by Saffron Hocking, his closest colleague and a woman he has romantic feelings for.
Leo must conceal his involvement while dealing with the police investigation and the criminal network seeking to recover the stolen money.
Blood has described the programme as a combination of crime drama and relationship story.
“It’s a bit of a hybrid show. At its heart, it’s about the relationship between Leo and Bella,” he said.
Hocking said the story initially appeared to be a light romantic police drama before Leo’s involvement in the robbery changed its direction.
“I just thought, this is going to be a cute, funny, smart, witty romantic police drama – where they’re on the beat, catching the bad guys. And then Leo is the bad guy. That made it darker than it originally presented itself to be, and darker is always more fun.”
The investigation also brings Leo into conflict with Pascal Dubois, a French crime boss played by William Abadie, who travels to London to recover the missing money.
Peter Serafinowicz plays Carter, a former police officer involved in the robbery, while Moe Bar-El portrays Dylan, a younger member of the group. The cast also includes Nadia Parkes, Ossian Perret, Joshua Sher and Brendan Coyle.
Abadie described the production as “a high stakes, adrenaline fueled British cop show” that was unlike a conventional police procedural.
London locations shape the production
David Caffrey, whose directing credits include Peaky Blinders, directed the series, which was filmed at locations across London, including Edgware Road and Paddington.
Blood said filming in public spaces helped give the programme a more authentic sense of the city.
The production was developed by Urban Myth Films, a company under STUDIOCANAL, and co-financed by CANAL+. STUDIOCANAL is responsible for international sales and distribution, while CANAL+ has secured the series for its international markets.
The series also brings together members of the cast and production team behind other British television dramas. Overman’s previous writing credits include Misfits, War of the Worlds and Paris Has Fallen.
M-Net is scheduled to broadcast new episodes of Hit Point every Monday through November 30.
