KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA (https://lifestyleuganda.com/) — Wizkid, an Afrobeat star from Nigeria, is up for the Hip-Hop song of the year award at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards for his hit summer single “Essence” feat. Tems.

Wizkid will compete against Cardi B, Drake, Future, Young Thug, among others, for the ‘HIP-HOP song of the year’ award at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards.
The 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards mark Wizkid’s return to the show following his win in 2017 where he won an iHeart Radio Award for his collaboration with American rapper, Drake, and singer Kyla.
A week after he received a nomination at the NAACP Image Awards in the ‘Best International Song’ category, he now receives his first award of the year from the iHeart international community.
In addition to Wizkid, there are other African music stars from West Africa nominated for the NAACP Image Awards in 2022, including Tems, Fireboy DML, Tiwa Savage, Omah Lay, and KiDi from Ghana.
The iHeartRadio platform was developed by iHeartMedia, Inc., and launched in April 2008 as the website iHeartMusic.com. Today, iHeartRadio is available online, via mobile devices, and on select video-game systems and consoles.
In 2015, iHeartRadio served both as a music recommender system and as a network of audio stations that aggregated audio content from iHeartMedia’s over 800 local stations in the United States, as well as from hundreds of other stations and other sources.
In addition to the live broadcast on iHeartRadio, this year’s show will also be available across iHeartMedia’s radio stations and on the iHeartRadio app. There will be two new categories this year – the TikTok songwriter of the year and best comeback album.
In the latter category, nominees include Adele’s 30, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, Foo Fighters’ Medicine at Midnight, Lorde’s Solar Power, Kacey Musgraves’ Star-Crossed, Bleachers’ Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night, and ABBA’s Voyage.
The fan community will vote on this year’s best fan army, best lyrics, best cover song, best music video, the social star award, favorite tour photographer, TikTok bop of the year and this year’s new categories, TikTok songwriter of the year and best comeback album.
