Charles Peter Mayiga, Prof Patrick Ogwang of Covidex, MC Kats, Pia Pounds and Levixone were some of the biggest winners at the Janzi Awards 2021.
KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA — At the Janzi Awards 2021, Charles Peter Mayiga, Prof Patrick Ogwang of Covidex, MC Kats, Pia Pounds, Levixone, Moses Matovu and Stylist of the stars Mavo Kampala were amongst the big winners.
In its inaugural year, the Janzi Awards ceremony, which took place at Kololo Airstrip on Saturday, December 11, 2021, was marked by pomp and glamour, right from the decor to the exotic fashion styles of the guests.
It was hosted by TV star Karitas Karisimbi, comedian Mark Agaba, and Isaac Rucci and witnessed several celebrities walk away with awards.
The Janzi awards were officiated by Labour, Gender, and Social Development Minister Peace Mutuuzo.
The red carpet event at the Janzi awards 2021 was hosted by Sheba Martha, Lynda Ddane, and Crysto Panda.
In addition to the awards, the ceremony featured fashion exhibitions by Joram Muzira of Joram Model Management and Sheebah Kassami, as well as performances from cultural troupes and several celebrities.
The Janzi award was one of the best shows of the year, featuring live performances by the comedy duo Mad Rat & Chico, Jowi Landa, Mudra, and Mr Eezzy.
In her remarks, Sylvia Owori, Director, OWC, who ensured the ceremony was successful, thanked Gen Salim Saleh, the Chief Coordinator, for his support of the cause to grow the creative and performing arts industry.
Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa, guest of honor at the second day of the Janzi awards, said: “The government is setting up 21 industrial parks and I will discuss with him so that one of them will be dedicated to the creative industry. The Janzi awards are here to facilitate the development of the creative industry for all.”.

During the Janzi awards ceremony, Moses Matovu, one of the founders of the Afrigo Band, Uganda’s longest-lasting band, received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Levixone received the Humanitarian Award.
Mozey Radio received the Outstanding Legendary Artist Award, his wife Lillian Mbabazi graciously received the Award in memory of his great works.
Musicians such as A Pass, Liam Voice, Victor Ruz, AnKnown, Sheebah, Zex, and Pallaso performed at the Janzi grande finale on Day 2, while Kayz, Emeka, Alya and Alex Dangote welcomed attendees to the red carpet on Day 2.
