Ugandan R&B star Ronald Magada, better known by his stage name Maro, has returned to Uganda after surviving a life-threatening car crash during a holiday trip to Zambia last month.
The singer, best known for hits like Rising Star and Anjagala, had been hospitalised following the accident in April, which left him in a coma and sparked widespread concern among fans. He was driving with his young daughter and a female Zambian friend when the car reportedly overturned due to mechanical failure.
In a heartfelt update shared on social media on 22 May, the artist confirmed he was back in Uganda and continuing to recover, both physically and emotionally, from what he described as a near-death experience.
“We were three people in the car—my daughter, a Zambian colleague who is also a friend of my wife, and myself. I was driving. The car overturned, and had it not been for the seatbelts, they might not have survived,” Maro said.
Photos shared shortly after the incident showed the car reduced to a mangled shell, fuelling early fears that the occupants had not survived. Fortunately, all three made it out alive, though not without injury.
The Zambian passenger, Maro revealed, suffered fractures and is currently using a wheelchair. He expressed hope that with proper medical care and therapy, she will make a full recovery.

While the singer pointed to a mechanical failure—specifically the car’s brakes—as the cause of the crash, he was candid about his own responsibility behind the wheel.
“I take the blame. I should have checked the vehicle thoroughly, especially before speeding. It was a mistake, and I thank God that it didn’t cost us our lives,” he said.
Maro also thanked fans, friends, and well-wishers for their prayers and support during his recovery, saying the experience has left him both humbled and grateful.
The accident marks a difficult chapter in the singer’s life, but his return home has been met with an outpouring of relief and encouragement from across the Ugandan entertainment community.
