KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA — Here is the complete list of the 2021 BET awards winners for the show, which was held in Los Angeles on 27 June under the theme “Year of the Black Woman.”

The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles hosted the ceremony as award-winning actress Taraji P. Henson conducted the live broadcast. This was the first live audience since the pandemic began.

During an opening speech, Taraji P. Henson said, “Celebrating Black women isn’t a fad or a trend, it’s a forever mood, because no one can be like me, and nobody can be like you.”

Black women aren’t a fad or a trend, they’re forever” Henson said, opening up the show, adding, “We have more than enough room to thrive because no one can be me or you like you.”

This year, Queen Latifah received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her “amazing success” during her decades-long career.

Rappers Lil Kim, Rapsody, MC Lyte, and Monie Love performed Queen Latifah’s songs “Ladies First” and “U.N.I.T.Y.” Queen Latifah then spoke, expressing her gratitude.

When receiving her Lifetime Achievement Award from BET, Queen Latifah said, “BET created a platform for beautiful Blackness to flourish, to shine.”

“I want to thank BET for creating an outlet for beautiful Blackness to thrive and to shine,” Queen Latifah said as she accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award.

“When we couldn’t get our songs played on the radio in other places, and when our videos couldn’t get played in other places, it was BET that allowed us to be in our fullness.” she added.

“When we couldn’t get plays on the radio elsewhere, when we couldn’t get our videos played elsewhere, BET let us be in our fullest.” she added.

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion had the most nominations of all the night and took home the awards for “Best Female Hip Hop Act,” “Best Collaboration,” “Viewers’ Choice,” and “Video of the Year.”

Hip-hop legend DMX, who passed away from a heart attack earlier this year, was honored by Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Swizz Beatz, and Michael K. Williams, who gave a special tribute performance.

The performances by Andra Day, the City Girls, DJ Khaled, Jazmine Sullivan, Lil Nas X, Kirk Franklin and Migos were among the highlights of the annual ceremony.
