KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA — The 2022 Global Citizen Festival will be held on 24 September in Accra, Ghana, and New York City’s Central Park, US, and will feature the likes of Nigerian singer Tems, Ghana’s Gyakie, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy.
The Accra showcases will also feature Usher, British-Ghanaian rapper Stormzy, and US R&B singer SZA.
Angélique Kidjo, Burna Boy, Femi Kuti, Davido, and Tiwa Savage were among the African musicians who performed at last year’s Global Citizen Festival.
Other international acts to perform at the New York showcase include Metallica, Charlie Puth, Jonas Brothers, Maneskin, Mariah Carey, Mickey Guyton and Rosalia.
In its role as an advocacy organization, Global Citizen calls itself “the world’s largest movement of action takers and impact makers committed to ending extreme poverty now.” A variety of media outlets, including ABC, ABC News Live, FX, Hulu, iHeartRadio, TimesLIVE, Twitter and YouTube, will broadcast and stream the 10th-anniversary concert.
Users earn points for each action they take, which can be redeemed for tickets. The list of performers and special guests will be updated soon.
By downloading the Global Citizen app or participating in its campaigns, you can earn free tickets to the festivals.
A key component of the 2022 Global Citizen Festival’s campaign is the call for world leaders to invest in women and girls, close the $10 billion climate finance shortfall, and end extreme poverty in Africa by providing urgent relief from crushing debt to African farmers.
The campaign will take place at the United Nations General Assembly and ahead of the G20 and COP27 in November.
