As a Showmax Original, The Real Housewives of Lagos will premiere in early 2022.

Our Real Housewives of Atlanta, Jersey, Durban, and Melbourne have entertained us for months now, so we’d like to peek inside the opulent lives of the most affluent women in Lagos.

The Real Housewives of Lagos will be the very first instalment of the award-winning franchise from NBC Universal Formats, a division of Universal Studios Group.

The format will also mark the 16th international version of The Real Housewives and the third time it will be adapted for African audiences.

RHOL will build upon the success of the previous two African editions, the Real Housewives of Durban and the Real Housewives of Johannesburg.

In 2019, The Real Housewives of Johannesburg was among the 10 most-streamed local TV series on Showmax, while The Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) broke records when it launched on Showmax in January 2021.

With its launch, RHOD has become incredibly successful in 50 countries across Africa, as well as on Hayu worldwide in 27 territories, including Canada, UK, Ireland, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore, and the Philippines.

Next year, RHOD will return to Showmax for its second season.

Candice Fangueiro, Showmax’s head of content, says, “Our audiences have gone crazy for The Real Housewives of Johannesburg and The Real Housewives of Durban.”

“We’ve seen audiences across Africa devour The Real Housewives of Johannesburg and The Real Housewives of Durban,” says Candice Fangueiro, Showmax’s head of content.

“We’re excited to show the world another side of Lagos, with drama, high fashion, and luxury and all the drama that The Real Housewives franchise is known for.”

NBCUniversal International Formats SVP, Format Sales & Production Ana Langenberg remarked, “We are so proud of the success of Real Housewives of Johannesburg and Durban with Showmax.”.

“We are thrilled to build on the success of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg and Durban with our partner Showmax,” said Ana Langenberg, SVP, Format Sales & Production, NBCUniversal International Formats.

“The vibrancy and opulence of Lagos make it ideal setting for the show, and we are looking forward to seeing the second season of Durban come to life and provide fans worldwide with further drama and excitement.”

”It’s the perfect setting for the show to flourish in Lagos with its vibrant culture, fashion, and opulence. We’re also looking forward to the second season of Durban, which promises to deliver even more fun and opulence to fans worldwide.”

Production of RHOL will be handled by LiveSpot 360, while RHOD will be handled by Let It Rain Films, Thumeka Hlotshana, with Emmy winner Lee Doig (Survivor USA) directing Season 2.

In early 2022, Showmax will be the first to offer RHOL and RHOD Season 2.

‘RHOL’ will be Showmax’s second original series in Nigeria after ‘I Am LAYCON’, which went on to become the first-day record holder in Nigeria for Showmax in February 2021.

Showmax has relived the drama of Seasons 1 and 2 of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg on their website here and S1 of The Real Housewives of Durban on their website here.
