Singer-songwriter Tiwatope Savage, aka Tiwa Savage, released her new EP, ‘Water and Garri’, today. The five-track EP follows her hit 2020 album, Celia.
KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA (https://lifestyleuganda.com/) — The award-winning singer and songwriter Tiwatope Savage, popularly known by her stage name Tiwa Savage, today released her new EP ‘Water and Garri’, a follow up to the award-winning singer’s hit album “Celia” released in 2020.
The EP, which was released by Universal Music South Africa, is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms. It comes a year after her last album, Celia, and is her second mid-length effort and fifth overall.
Tiwa Savage’s current EP, ‘Water and Garri’ is named after the popular Nigerian staple and combines various global influences, including those from her formative years in Lagos, her teenage years in London, and her university years in the U.S.
Tay Iwar and Rich King are fellow Nigerian R&B and Afro-fusion musicians which appear in the project, alongside Ghana’s Amaarae and Americans Nas and Brandy. Thematically, “Water and Garri” are about love.
MI Abaga, DJ Spinall, Don Jazzy, and Efya have already praised the EP, while Pharrell Williams previewed the EP and applauded its sincerity and edginess in April.
”Anyone who doesn’t understand that shouldn’t be listening to music, he said. “That is a classic, and to be clear, that right there is like boat music, that is like barbeque music, and that is self-reflection music,” Pharrell explained.
As of right now, Tiwa Savage is arguably Nigeria’s premier female musician and has collaborated with international musicians like Coldplay and Beyoncé.
She has also been nominated for three awards at the currently stalled MTV Africa Music Awards, including the Best Female Act and the Artist of the Year, for her song, “Tanana.”.
