The 2023 edition of The Future Awards Africa has unveiled its nominees, featuring prominent musicians such as Nigeria’s Ayra Starr and Asake, alongside Cameroonian artist Libianca, all in contention for the music award.
Additionally, French singers of African descent Aya Nakamura and Tayc have received nominations in the music category. In the realm of film, the acclaimed music video director TG Omori, known for his collaborations with leading Afrobeats artists like Asake and Davido, has earned a spot on the shortlist.
Organized by the social enterprise The Future Project, these awards honor exceptional individuals aged 18 to 31 across various fields. They shine a spotlight on trailblazers who have challenged conventions and redefined norms in their respective domains over the past year.
This year’s The Future Awards Africa adopts the theme “Defying Odds, Inspiring Greatness” and will recognize achievements in 25 categories, spanning dance, sports, film, entrepreneurship, and technology. To qualify for nomination, candidates must have made substantial, well-documented, and accessible contributions either in Nigeria or globally within the previous year.
At the 16th edition of the awards held in Lagos, Nigeria, singer Tems received the music prize. Notable past recipients include Wizkid, who received the Young Person of the Year award in 2017, as well as Davido and Burna Boy, who secured the music category honors in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
