Zex Bilangilangi, real name Mayega Tadeo B, has stepped into the business world with a new car spare parts shop, adding another stream of income to his name.
His music career has had its highs, but lately, things have been quiet on that front. While he still gets booked for shows around the country, the hit-making streak that gave us bangers like Nalinda, Kiiya, Ratata, and Party Yani hasn’t been as strong lately.
That hasn’t stopped him from thinking ahead. Instead of waiting for another chart-topping song, Zex is putting his business skills to use. He recently shared a TikTok video on X (formerly Twitter), showing off Zex Auto Parts—his fully stocked spare parts shop in Nabugabo.
Artists are often called out for not investing wisely, but Zex seems to be making smart moves. It’s a lesson many in the industry are starting to take seriously.
Just days ago, veteran singer Viboyo advised artists to stop relying solely on music for survival. He pointed out how Uganda’s music industry is structured in a way that forces artists to keep performing to make money.
Most depend on concert gigs and online streams, but Viboyo believes they should branch out into other industries like fashion and business.
“As artists, we mostly earn from shows and private events. But if we had extra income sources, like selling merchandise, we wouldn’t have to depend only on stage performances,” he said in a recent interview.
Zex seems to have taken that advice to heart, proving that thinking beyond music might just be the key to long-term success.
