A number of West African musicians have been nominated for the American Music Awards 2022, including Tems, CKay, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Fireboy DML.
KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA — A number of West African musicians, including Tems, CKay, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Fireboy DML, have earned nominations for the 2022 American Music Awards.
The American Music Awards, now in their 50th year, are the world’s largest fan-voted awards ceremony recognizing outstanding achievement and album releases.
Nigerians Burna Boy and others were nominated in the newly-introduced Favourite Afrobeats Artist category at the 2022 American Music Awards, in recognition of the genre’s global impact.
With her contribution to Wizkid’s global hit ‘Essence,’ Tems leads the African contingent into the 2022 American Music Awards after being nominated in three other categories, namely Collaboration of the Year, Favourite Hip Hop Song, and Favorite R&B Song.
At the 2022 American Music Awards, Wizkid received nods in two categories, including Favourite R&B Song.
In the global American Music Awards for this year, the most nominated acts are Latin artist Bad Bunny with eight nominations, followed by US singers Beyoncé and Taylor Swift with six nominations.
With five nominations apiece, English pop stars Adele, Harry Styles and Canadian artist The Weeknd round out the field. The American Music Awards are scheduled to air globally in more than 120 countries and territories in 2022.
