Kampala Metropolitan Police have said a post-mortem examination will establish the cause of death of Ugandan comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose, who collapsed during a school visitation in Wakiso District on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala said Kapere collapsed at Jolibo Junior School in Kimbejja Zone, Nansove, while visiting his child with his wife, Lydia Nakandi, popularly known as Mama Trump.
The visit coincided with a school graduation ceremony for top class pupils.
Kawala said Nsangi Police received a distress call following a report from the school director about the comedian’s sudden collapse.
“He was immediately rushed to Zam Zam hospital and later referred to Royale Hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 5:45pm. A postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the actual cause of death,” Kawala said.
She conveyed condolences to Kapere’s family, relatives and friends.
The police statement has provided further details about the circumstances surrounding his death, although the cause remains unknown pending the post-mortem examination.
A close family member told Daily Monitor that Kapere had complained of a severe headache shortly before he was rushed to hospital. The family account provides further information about his condition before the collapse, but police have not established whether the headache was related to his death.
NUP leaders mourn comedian
Kapere’s death prompted tributes from National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders, colleagues and fans.
NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, announced the comedian’s death in a post on X on Sunday evening, describing him as a close friend and comrade.
In his tribute, Kyagulanyi wrote:

He also expressed support for Kapere’s widow and children, saying they would not be left to face their loss alone.
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi also mourned the comedian, recalling that they had met at the NUP offices in Kavule the previous week.
“Just last week, we were with Kapere Lufotose at NUP offices in Kavule. It is so sad to learn that he has passed on,” Ssenyonyi wrote on X.
Career with Amarula Family
Kapere gained national recognition through Amarula Family, a comedy group that also featured Allan Mujuni, popularly known as Amooti, and Nicholas Mpiirwe, known as Messe Bontwe.
He became recognisable for his facial expressions, dancing and physical comedy, which featured in stage performances and television productions.
One of his early performances, a skit titled Lufotose, helped establish his stage identity and contributed to his rise in the entertainment industry.
His appearances also extended to music videos, including Bobi Wine’s Mr Money, in which he portrayed a wealthy man.
