A new date and location have been announced for the 64th annual Grammy Awards, also known as the 2022 Grammy Awards. They will take place on 3 April.
KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA (https://lifestyleuganda.com/) — A new date and location have been assigned to the 64th annual Grammy Awards, also known as the 2022 Grammy Awards, which have now been rescheduled for 3 April from 31 January.
It was originally planned for the 2022 Grammy Awards to be held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, but the Omicron variant surge changed those plans, as previously reported by Lifestyle Uganda News.
Additionally, the Grammy Awards venue will move from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in 2022, with South African comedian Trevor Noah as the MC again.
The Grammy Awards oversight body, the Recording Academy, and broadcaster CBS made the official announcement this week.
“We are excited to take the Grammys to Las Vegas for the very first time and to put on a world-class show,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr said.
“From the moment we announced the postponement of the original show date, we have been inundated with heartfelt messages of support and solidarity from the artist community. We are humbled by their generosity and grateful for their unwavering commitment to the Grammy Awards and the academy’s mission.” added CEO Harvey Mason Jr.
Africa at the 2022 Grammys
This will be Africa’s most crowded Grammys nominations to date, with top names such as Ghanaian reggae/Afro-roots musician Rocky Dawuni, Beninese Grammy-winning artist Angélique Kidjo, Nigerians Wizkid, Tems, Femi Kuti and Made Kuti, and South Africans Black Coffee and Wouter Kellerman.
Burna Boy won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album in 2021, making him Africa’s most important win at the awards.
CBS has also announced that the CMT Music Awards, which honor country video talent, will be postponed from 3 April to a later date.
Variety reports that details and dates for other Grammy events, including the premiere ceremony, the MusiCares Person of the Year benefit concert honoring Joni Mitchell and Clive Davis, and the pre-Grammy gala honoring Sony Music chief Rob Stringer, will be released soon.
Broadcaster CBS said it would announce the dates and locations of other official Grammy Week events – including the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, MusiCares’ Person of the Year Award and the Pre-Grammy Gala – soon.
“We appreciate the leadership CBS and our production partners at Fulwell 73 have shown during these challenging weeks and the flexibility of everyone who worked toward this solution,” Mason said.
