Madina Giovanni Fazzini, the wife of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, has filed for divorce at a court in Kadhi’s jurisdiction.

Madina Giovanni Fazzini alleges, in her court documentation, that their 11-year-old marriage had irretrievably broken down, with no hope of renewal since both parties had left the relationship.
In her words, Fazzini explained that she and Governor Hassan Joho had moved forward with separate lives and therefore needed a divorce.
“There is no hope or possibility of reconciliation or compromise of whatsoever nature between me and the governor,” reads part of the suit.

The Italian-born Madina Giovanni Fazzini filed a suit on January 26 with Kadhi’s court in Mombasa through the law firm of Aziz M Ngare.
A mother of two, she affirmed that she and the politician were married in February 2011 and that they had two children together.
In her account, they were married for only two years before they separated.
It is reported that Hassan Joho moved out of the marital home in June 2013, a move that further complicated the already troubled marriage.

Fazzini said that she and her children continued living in the same home until she decided to move out and relocate to Malindi in 2020.
Hassan Joho’s wife said that she was sure that the marriage could not be revived any longer, legally or socially.
In her grounds, Fazzini claimed that she had not been forced into filing the matter and had chosen to do so voluntarily.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is on the campaign trail for Azimio la Umoja, so the court gave him 15 days to enter an appearance and respond to the suit.
