The event is organized by Charterhouse Ghana in partnership with the Musicians Union of Ghana and Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Art, and Culture.
This will be the 22nd year that the VGMAs will be held in Ghana, making them the most prestigious music competition in the country.
Earlier this year, the nominations for this year were announced. In 29 categories, organizers said they received more than a thousand submissions, with more than 100 nominees making the cut.

Charterhouse Ghana said that the VGMAs employ a three-tiered voting system that relies on the board, the academy, and the public.
For the public (popular) awards, the board has 30% voting power and the academy has 30% voting power, leaving the public with 40% majority voting power.” “Honorary Awards go to the board, and technical awards are split evenly between the board and the academy.”
Afropop, highlife, hiplife, and traditional music releases between 1 January and 31 December 2020 will be considered for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
This year, the Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has the most nominations, including one in the coveted Artist of the Year category, which he took home last year.
With 11 nominations, Adina is the most nominated female artist in the history of the awards. KiDi received 10 nominations.

Voting through SMS can only be done through Vodafone. Fans can text ‘A’ or ‘B’ to 1767 to vote for their favorite Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.
